Frequencies
In a trade-off between physical characteristics, radio propagation
aspects, international frequency allocation aspects and with respect to
its broadband system concept, TRainCom® HST radio systems typically operate within the microwave frequency range between 5 and 6 GHz.
Here, almost everywhere, users can take advantage of the available unlicensed frequency bands (e.g. ISM band) for radio systems.
Nevertheless, usage of this frequency band enables broadband system
capabilities with high data rates, but also has some constraints e.g.
with respect to potential interference with other radio applications
and a restriction in radio ranges. Therefore TRainCom® HST is available for both licensed and license-free frequency bands. Depending on national regulations, TRainCom®
systems can also be adapted to licensed or customer-specific frequency
bands between 1 and 10 GHz. For special applications, radio frequencies
in even higher mmW bands are also possible.
The main advantages of licensed frequencies are obvious, an elimination
of interference with other radio users and therefore also lower
restrictions in radio propagation. Regardless of licensed or unlicensed
frequencies bands, TRainCom radio systems use their specific radio
protocols, modulation schemes and medium access procedures to enable
hassle-free operation in the relevant rail environment.
